FAQs

Here you can find the answers to a number of frequently asked questions. If you cannot find the answer to your question here, then please contact us to discuss.

Do I need to pay a security deposit?

A security deposit of £250 is required 7 days before you come to collect the van at the start of the hire. This must be paid by cheque or bank transfer, as our insurance company require it to be traceable.

This will be returned within 7 days of the end of the hire, after an inspection of the van.

Any deductions for damage, fuel or cleaning will be taken from the security deposit.

Is there an age limit for the drivers?

Yes, to drive the vans you must be between 25 and 70 years old as standard.

Please contact us to discuss if your age falls outside of this range. Our insurance company will allow exceptions, but they need to be approved by them. A surcharge may be applied.

Can we have more than one driver?

Yes. Copies of driving licenses for all drivers must be provided during booking and presented for inspection when you come to collect the van at the start of the hire (actual licenses required at the start of hire, not photocopies).

Do we need our own insurance?

You do not need insurance for driving the vans, but as with any holiday it is recommended that you take out appropriate travel insurance in case of any unforeseen issues.

What happens if our van breaks down?

Full AA breakdown cover is included in the cost of the hire.

Our vans are serviced regularly but you must remember that they are over 30 years old. They do from time to time have ‘senior moments’. We will always aim to get you back on the road as soon as possible.

Can you deliver the van to me?

Depending on location, we may be able to provide this service at an extra cost. Please contact us for a quote.

Are the vans difficult to drive?

The vans are over 30 years old, so will be a little different to the more modern vehicles you are probably used to driving. It may take you a few miles to get the hang of the gears, but once you’ve got it you should find it very easy and fun.

You can have a little practice at our storage facility when you come to collect the vehicle.

Does the cost of hire include any fuel?

No. The vans will start the hire with a full tank of fuel and should be returned in the same state. The information pack included with the van gives details of fuel stations close to our storage facility.

If the van is returned without a full tank of fuel, £25 plus the exact cost of filling up the van, will be deducted from the security deposit. A receipt for the fuel will be provided to you.

Where can I take the vans?

Our vans can be taken anywhere in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Essex. With prior permission you can travel further afield within the UK.

Insurance and breakdown cover for European travel can be arranged, although this will be at extra cost. Any extra costs incurred will need to be covered by the customer before the hire starts.

Is there a mileage restriction?

Mileage is restricted to an average of 150 miles per day over the period of the holiday, on a basic hire package. If you are expecting a much higher average daily mileage than this, it can be negotiated before the start of the hire at extra cost.

If extra mileage is not negotiated before hire, it will be charged at £5.00 for every 10 miles. This will be deducted from the security deposit.

Do you allow pets?

We have revised our pet policy and will now allow one well behaved dog in Trevor. Any extra cleaning costs incurred due to having a dog in the van, will be taken from your security deposit.

You must never leave you dog alone in the van.

Poppy remains pet free, due to the possibility of other customers having allergies.

Is Smoking Allowed?

We do not allow smoking in our vehicles. If there is evidence that customers have been smoking, a professional cleaning charge will be deducted from the deposit.

Is there anywhere to leave my vehicle whilst I’m away on my holiday?

Yes. You may leave your vehicle at our secure storage facility whilst you are enjoying your holiday.

The storage facility is locked with 24hr on-site presence. However, you leave your vehicle with us at your own risk and Norfolk VW Campers accept no responsibility for theft or damage.

Can we cook in the van?

Yes. All of our vans come equipped with a two hob cooker (either built in, or stand alone) which can be used inside the van.

We also provide a Cobb BBQ. This must only be used outside of the vehicle, as per the instructions provided.

You will find a copy of The Campervan Cookbook in the van to help you along the way.
